Civic Design / Akonadi Foundation Racial Justice Poster Project

Skyline High School and Oakland High School Visual Art Departments

We created the Civic Design/Akonadi Foundation Racial Justice Poster Project this year in conjunction with Oakland High and Skyline High Visual Arts Departments. Over 200 students submitted poster designs about the theme “Oakland is Home.” Students then nominated 16 of the top designs for large-scale public display.

Displays at Museum of Childrens Art, with an event audience of 1000 people, plus large-scale public displays in Old Oakland brought public awareness to the issues of Home and Belonging; criminalization and systemic exclusion of youth, youth homelessness, and/or displacement impacting their community.
